The Media of Language
Information
is the feedback loop of the Gaian Consciousness system. It follows that the means of producing, storing and sharing information
are becoming accessible to ever
more of the global population.
More people have the ability, feel the need, and are inspired to express
their hyper context also through producing informational representations. This
representational information is taking multi-media forms. In particular, the
rise of audio-visual. We have moved from sign to screen, translating all our
sophisticated ability to synthesize text and image as a cohesive message into
the ability to read novel pairings in multi-media as a single text. As we come
into the age of hyper-expressive arts and all-encompassing sensory media
productions, Chris Anderson, director at TED.com, pointed out in his talk, Crowd
Accelerated Innovation, that the rise of
video is actually a return to an older form of communication: face-to-face.The audio-visual medium enables human activity to be
shared and taught that was previously non-locally invisible simply because it
could not be communicated through text and still photography alone. Scientists
were wasting time and thousands of dollars making errors when trying to
replicate experiments by following journal articles. These errors are now easily avoided by seeing the
experiments done through video. Video sharing is also a principal force driving
cultural innovation, putting the best of the best of all these newly
communicable activities in conversation with each other. Now dancers from
Toyko, New York and Rio can now all see and study what the others are doing,
challenging each other to continually improve, accelerating new development.
Terence
McKenna called language a dimension-exploring device. Our language is becoming multi-sensory. It always has
been. Only now, technology is enabling multi-sensory communication to be shared
non-locally and in novel fusions. Our multi-sensory language is able to come
into a new form of itself as it evolves through the generational cycles of
technology, which mates and mutates much faster then our own adaptive cycles.
It is evolving in this direction. Which is to say, that we too are evolving in
this way. And through this new way in which language is becoming multi-media and
multi-techno-sensory, we are witnessing a occurrence similar to a phenomenon
observed in the harmonics of choral chants called the ‘Angel Tone.’ When
multiple voices come together in song, tones can be heard and recorded which
are not being made by any of those who are singing. Where multiple forces
converge, an additional element arises. As our language and communicative
expression re-configures itself through our technological tools, our sensory
receptive capacities are undergoing a swift evolution. While it is my personal
hope that communicating non-locally through a technological hardware will lead
to an organically emergent telepathic human software- a phenomenon for which I
suggest the name Tech-lepathy, the mere fact of our developing the ability to
cognitize technologically mediated sensory information into cohesive
communication in this way signifies an adaptive perceptuo-sensory
transition.
If
our dimension exploring devices are undergoing such a rapid shift, we are also undergoing a rapid dimensional
shift. Science tells us that nature moves towards complexification through
diversification, ultimately growing into co-operation at a larger scale.
Applied to our own situation, we have already moved through diversification and
complexification. We now find ourselves on the threshold of realizing that
cooperation, potentially being able to understand and experience ourselves in a
larger dimensional scale as a single, global organism.
As
part of becoming aware cells in the body of this larger planetary organism,
pattern orders that we would have to contain an overall blue print of the
whole. So this intense pressure of information, transmitted through a
multi-sensory, multi-media language, is the accelerated process of being
downloaded with the DNA of our entire earthly history. It’s the whole human
repertoire. Much of it is being disseminated through this collective human
brain we’ve built for ourselves called the internet. Which does indeed have the
same shape and follow the same functional pattern as our own neural
network-sending electrical synapses carrying information to non-local
cells throughout the body.
Seen
in this Time-Scale, it is as though we’ve gone through the process of becoming individuals in
order to come back together as a more complex organism. To have this
opportunity to strive for co-operation at this level of diversity. As though,
through individuality, we can reverse jujitsu into a collective,
self-sustaining ecology just now coming into image-ing.
